Tribute to Paul A. Ansfield

Paul A. Ansfield

Paul Ansfield, long time Executive Director of the Lake Michigan Performance Handicap Racing Fleet passed away quietly at home surrounded by friends and family after a short illness.


Paul received his Bachelors degree from the University of Wisconsin at Madison, a Masters from Marquette University in Milwaukee and his Doctorate in Psychology from Purdue University. He was professor of Psychology at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh for 40 years. Locally he was active the Oshkosh Rotary Club, the New Horizons Band of Fox Valley, in which he played Euphonium and Bass, and served as Board President. He also served with the Mercy Medical Center.


His involvement with sailing came early in his career and inlcude participating in competitive events on Lake Winnebago, WI as well as serving as Commodore of the Pioneer Yacht club.


In addition to his many years of service as Executive Direct of LMPHRF, Paul was also heavily involved with US Sailing over a number of years. He served in various national management positions as US Sailing PHRF Chairperson, US Sailing Executive Board Member, Chair of the US Sailing PHRF National Appeals Process, and had been extensively involved in the research and development of handicap scoring systems.


It is said that if you want to live a fulfilled life, find your passion and pursue it. Paul found that early in life and his contributions to sailing in general, and Lake Michigan PHRF will long be appreciated.
